Farmers and Ranchers Estate Planning Seminar
Area: Catlettsburg, KY
Date: Thursday, November 15, 2012
Time: 06:00 PM - 07:30 PM
Location: Boyd County Cooperative Extension Services Office
Address: 2420 Center Street
Catlettsburg, KY 41129
Description
The transition of ownership of a family farm — whether through death, retirement, divorce, or just the desire to sell an interest — can cause turmoil in a family. But harmony can be maintained, and many difficult situations can be anticipated and avoided, if proper planning is done in advance. Being prepared ahead of time means the difference between either getting it right or seeing in ‘hindsight’ how it should have been done. Traditional estate planning has focused primarily on what happens after death and has usually passed on the family assets outright with no conditions or safeguards. Farmers face unique challenges surrounding how to preserve the family farm; a symbol of their heritage. This seminar focuses on the legal and practical issues of transferring the family farm from one generation to the next with ease and accuracy.
