About John Potter

John Potter is the attorney in charge of The Potter Law Firm's Northern Kentucky office in Erlanger, Kentucky near the Cincinnati airport. His practice focuses on Estate Planning, Medicaid Planning, and Veterans' Aid & Attendance Benefits Planning. He is dedicated to helping his clients achieve the peace of mind that comes with knowing they have effective plans are in place to meet their current and future financial and legacy wealth planning goals.

Experience

After graduating from the University of Virginia College of Law in 2003, Mr. Potter clerked for United States District Judge Jennifer Coffman in Lexington, Kentucky. In 2004, he joined the law firm of Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he practiced in the litigation section. His experience with estate and trust litigation left him with the conviction that he wanted to help clients proactively take control of their affairs both to avoid unnecessary, time-consuming, expensive, and heart-breaking litigation and also to give clients the peace of mind and benefits that come with proper planning.

With this aim in mind, Mr. Potter opened the Erlanger office of The Potter Law Firm in 2008. He is admitted to practice law in Kentucky and Ohio, and he is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs to represent veterans and their spouses before the Department.

Education

Mr. Potter received his B.A. in Economics from Davidson College, in Davidson, North Carolina, in 2000. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2003.

Community Involvement

Mr. Potter believes he has a responsibility to devote his time and energy to improving the community where he lives and works. He is actively involved in a number of civic organizations, including Llanfair Retirement Community, where he serves on the communities Advisory Board; the Kentucky Bar Association's Public Service Committee, which is currently focusing on educating high school students about their legal responsibilities as they turn 18; the Cincinnati Bar Association's Mock Trial Committee which organizes the high school mock trial competition in Hamilton County, Ohio, and the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce's Environmental Policy Committee which promotes environmentally sustainable development in Northern Kentucky. Mr. Potter is the recipient of the Kentucky Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Public Service Award for 2009. Most importantly, Mr. Potter is an elder at Covenant First Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, where he is involved in Session and outreach.
